The Shoes Have Spoken

The Shoes Hath Spoken

Sorry folks, I’ve got quite a bit going on the next couple of weeks so I’m going to have to announce a hiatus on Hands Up. By that I mean I think it’ll take me another fortnight or so to release another page. I do have #11 laid out, I just need time to clean up/render, time which I really don’t have at the moment.

Don’t fret, I love writing Hands Up like a lot of you seem to love reading it – judging by the positive feedback so far. I do have at least one and a half more characters to introduce who I think kick ass in their own quirky way and I’m really looking forward to getting to those skits. I have about 9 more skits written which I’m happy to move forward with (and about 10 rejected skits – I’m very finicky when it comes to producing quality writing. I don’t believe in fracking around by publishing half assed skits). Shooting for a total of 20-25 pages for this “first season” or whatever you’d call it. Consider this a (sort of) mid-season hiatus? Like how Dr Who is on an oh-so-hatable hiatus. I know, I hate hiatuses. This makes me hypocrite and so be it.

For now the shoes have spoken and they say if I don’t get back to what I should be doing, I can’t buy them. Which means terrible doom. My feet will have to settle for what I already own, which would be blaspheme.

Till a fortnight (or so) Adieu!

Portfolio Update!

Heads up, I’m being a bit slow but stickin’ to my word… I’ve updated my PDF portfolios linked to my website. There be a few new things in there I haven’t been able to release before because they had not been aired/delivered. But now they have so I assume it’s safe. Although ‘assume’ is a dangerous word sometimes…

I guess my next step is to create loads more new artwork (which I am doing, just being reserved about it… or rather too lazy to scan things in. That and I don’t think my abilities are worth the scanning efforts yet.) After a few decent new art pieces I will be updating my portfolio… perhaps revamping my website. My goal is to take away the “PDF download” feature and build it into my website. My coding skills are however… non-existent. So. This is going to be challenging.

EDIT: I just noticed that the PDFs have my contact number on them. Hmm. Oh well, I’ll have to remember to remove it soon. For now, BED TIME is serious bizness.

Website Update March 2011

Nothing too exciting YET.

I just wanted to do a little update, the purpose being: removing my contact number from my website. Reason: My parent’s friends have been contacting me through my number on my website, to contact my parents. This is becoming a little more frequent than I like and it’s just not cool. Ok, fine, whatever but not after 9PM please.

Which is a bummer because I liked to have my number up there for my clients, potential clients, colleagues and friends. You can still contact me through facebook (my phone number is on there and you can see it if you are a client, colleague or my friend) or you can email me through the email on my website. I do check my emails often – as often as I eat pancakes. Well, I don’t really eat pancakes that often but that was just a bad analogy because it’s 2:30AM.

Why am I working at 2:30AM? I dunno, a gut feeling that if I left things the way they were for tomorrow, next week or next month, I might prolong my incidental fate as my parent’s 24-hr receptionist.

Anyway, here it is, enjoy the new skin, featuring an idealised cartoon version of me with skinnier legs and purple hair like Misato Katsuragi.

Next is an update of my PDF portfolios and some more new personal work which will appear here on my blog.

Manga Workshop: Character Design (Haberfield Library)

Hi Peeps!

Just a shout out that Fi Darwin and I will be doing a “Character Design” workshop at Haberfield Library on Thursday, 7th October 2010. Details in the flyer below!

Haberfield Library Character Design Workshop OCT 2010

We’re also running a “Storytelling in Manga & Comics” workshop (first time in over a year!) at Camden Library on Friday, 8th October 2010. Please contact Camden Library for more details! http://www.library.camden.nsw.gov.au/ (or me if you like.)

Magical Tales on Air!

William and Sparkles’ Magical Tales is a new kids show I worked on which started airing last week Friday. I’m pretty excited because it looks like a really good show! And crossing fingers that it’s received well by the kiddies. It should be on for the next couple of months. =D

Visit the website! >> http://www.magicaltales.com.au/

I managed to catch the first episode of it and was excited to see the puppets which were based on one of the several design sketches I submitted long ago. Their names are Nooshy and Pozo and I don’t know if I can reveal the story behind their names so I won’t.

Here is a “fan art” of Nooshy and Pozo. Yup, I am vain enough to do a fan art of my own designs.

Catch William and Sparkles’ Magical Tales on Channel 9 / WIN TV, Weekdays 3.30PM. (Australia only… for now anyway.) ;)

Website Under Construction…

There’s still a lot of work on this layout… it’s not exactly how I pictured it but it’ll do for now. I’m hoping to get my friend to help me do the coding part of it if she’s still up for it… hopefully it’ll be done in a month! or so >__> aherm… depends on whether I find work soon or not.

Other things I’ve got cooking in my brain are … launching a website dedicated to Agharti. And hopefully have some new Agharti related artwork if I have time… And updating the Ehushu page to have more artwork on it.

Then I’ve also got an idea for an animated short which I wanted to design characters, sets and storyboard. I’m hoping if I do get around to it, I will be able to pitch the idea to an animation studio that I work for down the track. Who knows? Someone might like it… lol. It’s surprisingly slapstick and light hearted AND has no dialogue for someone who tends to do brooding and poignant pieces with lots of wordy melancholic dialogue.

I’m also intending to keep going with my portrait studies… I’m almost finished doing the tenth doctor! Will have that up right after I get back from Melbourne in two Tuesdays’ time. =D And I’ve committed to help my good ol’ friend Cyrus on his animated short. Doing character designs for it and might give him a hand with storyboards. Well, while I’m looking for a job, I might as well keep myself super busy.

My audio drama project is on hold for the moment… I’m prioritising my art career. >_< (i.e. I need income…)

Hello World… (of WordPress)

I’ve been meaning to do this since forever… that is making the switch from blogspot to wordpress and only just got the urge to do it today.

HELLLOOOOOOO!

I’m an illustrator/designer/storyboard artist and an occasional voice actor (by occasional meaning one-time professional gig and big time online VA hobbyist) known as Al, Ally, Althea, Aru or Arutea. I am also quite a blogger when I have enough free time.

So from now on I will be posting here all my personal work (hopefully some professional work if allowed) and yes… the aim is to get really good at what I love doing. Which is drawing… and coming up with ideas!

BTW has anyone ever come up with the problem of images inserted via URL not appearing in their posts?
